Eragon is a sci-fi adventure about a young boy who finds a strange stone in a place called the Spine. He takes the stone home and after a few days it cracks open revealing a baby dragon. Eragon hides the dragon as he raises it, because he fears for his life. A few months after the egg hatches a pair of strange creatures called Ra'zac appear looking for the egg. Saphira, the dragon, becomes frightened and kidnaps Eragon into the Spine. He manages to persuade her to return, but upon returning they find his home destroyed and uncle dead. Eragon vows revenge upon the Ra'zac and sets off after them. However he is confronted by the village story teller Brom who had discovered Saphira's existence and wished to accompany them for reasons of his own. During their travels Eragon learns alot from Brom including sword fighting and magic. After many days they lose the Ra'zac's trail and travel to Teirm where they belive a friend of Brom's can help them. While their Eragon has his fortune told by the eccentric herbalist Angela and hets advice from her werecat Solembum. After a few days they discover the Ra'zac's lair at Dras Leona and set off there. However the Ra'zac ambush them and Brom is mortally injured. Eragon escapes however with the aid of a mysterious young man named Murtagh. As Brom dies he reveals most of his secrets to Eragon. Eragon, angered by another death of those he loves, decides to join the Varden a rebel group who are trying to kill the king, who is the Ra'zacs boss. As they travel to the Varden they are ambushed again and Eragon is taken prisoner. While in prison Eragon discovers that the king has captured an elf and had employed a Shade to torture her. When he escapes he brings the elf with him. Then together he and Murtagh bring the elf to the Varden so that she can get the antidote to the poison given to her. When they near the Varden they are attacked once more by a group of Kull, elite warriors of a savage race. The Varden saves them and Eragon meets with their leader and the king of dwarves. After a few days rest however, the Varden is attacked by a massive army of urgals employed by the king. Eragon and Arya help the Varden fight the Urgals. A t the end of the battle the Shade wounds Eragon mortally across the back just before Eragon stabs him through the heart. Eragon lives however because Angela gives him so herbs and stuff for the wound but he now gets sudden attacks of pain for no reason. After the battle Eragon decides to go to the elves to complete his training.I think that this is a very good book filled with suspense and excitement. The author Christopher Paulini really has a way with leavin people hanging at just the right moments. I also liked it because of the way Paulini has made two new languages for the story. I hope you enjoy it too.
