Money is the most important thing in the world. But first we all have to understand money, for managing it effectively. It has to be earned by rightful means continuously. We have to plan our expenditures, savings & investments for the uncertain future, including for the retirement. Money saved is also money earned. In twenty two Chapters of this book, the renowned author has unleashed various so called secrets, for advising the readers of all ages, to make money. However, in money matters we can not believe any body repeat any body, since every one appears to be taking advantage of us. The author has given a quiz under five heads, for determining our current financial health, calculating & analyzing our score. In various Chapters he has explored working of US economy, strategies for getting a good job, making money in stock market, tips for buying & selling real estate, minimizing taxes, reducing cost of our medical care, negotiating for every thing & managing expenses at home etc.
The author brings the real ground situation, in a humourous & straight forward manner, to our notice, to avoid our false hopes of getting money. In respect of buying real estate, location is said to be the most important factor. At one place, he advises us to start our own business, giving several examples, even if we do not have talent or good ideas. We have to identify one idea for business, for certain target people, who have money & are willing to give us some, against a product or service with that idea. In another place he states that, managing our personal finances is of utmost importance. We may be doing many wrong things without even knowing about them, e.g. we should not buy small & simple things (which we can make ourselves)from the market, where the prices are quite high. We have to make a long-term financial plan, & take charge of the situation. We must analyze our cash flow, graphically visualize where our money is going, use ABC analysis & cut back where the expenses are high. We should use credit card wisely & logically & not every where, since purchases through it are expensive. Thus many simple techniques have been given, which can be used for reducing unnecessary spending. Dave Barry has a style of humour of his own, wherein some words having sexual bent have also been used, though in abstract writer's opinion they are not needed. But it is a fact that a serious matter like Money, has been made very light, by including humour virtually in every page of the book e.g. (quote)....I ask for nothing in return except for your thanks & a large amount of money. (unquote) and (quote) The best way to save money on a family vacation ....is not to take any members of your family.(unquote) Getting success in financial matters is not so easy. We may fail many times, but we learn. Also, money is not every thing in life. Things like family, knowledge, friendship etc., bring happiness to us. We can't buy every thing with money. But it is still better & safer to get money. This book has given some proven & time tested points for managing our money, & it serves the purpose of our education, study & utilization as per our own requirements. But finally, it is up to us to enter the arena, take reins in our hands, work hard, use our own judgement, have trust in ourselves & take decisions. This book is suitable for everybody, but only one copy each.
