The Clan Of The Cave Bear
(Jean M. Auel)
The first in a series of books that takes the reader back to prehistoric times. Jean Auel's detail is stunning as is her characters. A young girl lost and almost dead is picked up by a clan of Neanderthal hunter-gatherers on a search for a new home. Her struggle for survival amongst these people will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. A struggle that that depicts in very strong terms the difference between modern and Neanderthal humans and the interaction that must have taken place between both races. Her research on the subject must have taken her most of her lifetime to obtain. After reading the novel I?m sure many have wanted to go out and grab a piece of flint and start banging away. For those who have tried and failed miserably to produce any decent kind of results will realise the difficulty of early mans existence. From those times till now is a gulf that seems impossible to span, yet here we are. And Jean Auel will take you on that journey back in time in a manner no other author is ever likely to imitate
