Glasses Of Positivity
(Sandeep)
I was once asked by a geriatric as to if I can see properly through my eyes. The veil of youthful ignorance made me answer in a positive. He had then laughed uproariously and I had rushed away indignantly. Today, after a couple of years and a partially shining skull, I comprehend his source of mirth. Can we really see properly? The answer is NO. And why so? Because most of us have succumbed to a blindness towards positivity. We feel cozy when we are reminded of the negative energy all around us. We resort to religion and spirituality. Some turn to astrology while others to numerology. Even while having corporate health check-ups, we happily anticipate some cause of medical concern and if the medical practitioner, by mistake, shocks us by declaring that nothing is wrong with us, we suspect his capabilities. In social circles, the hot topic has been ?problems, weaknesses and other variants of negativity?. I hardly hear anyone exclaiming at the beauty of Garden City, Bangalore. All I keep hearing is ?pollution, traffic woes, rising costs?..etc.? The list is endless. Let?s now take a sneak peek inside the glistening glass building of corporate power-houses. We have committed trainers that make sure we are absolutely aware of our weaknesses. Hours are spent spotting our weaknesses out. These are then discussed at length with the victim. The weakness is ripped apart and analysed. And finally, the counselor conjures the magic and brings a solution to our weaknesses. We are presented a comprehensive list of weaknesses and the associated steps to work on them. After all, they are our ?Areas of Improvement?. Never do we see a healthy discussion on our in-born strengths and how we can simply customize them to suit today?s environment. Even back inside the walls of our homes, we are constantly reminded of our ?areas of improvement?. One moment of encouragement or congratulations to our kids on the exams they did. Hours are spent on those they did not. We spend time loosing weight, trimming eye-brows, taking facials, planning for future etc. All of them triggered by negative apprehensions. But every phenomenon has a counter-effect ( remember Newton?s third Law?). We see book shelves flooded with inspirational books. Pavements have strewn with the pirated copies of the same. Infact, if I get good response for this article, I might as well plan to write an inspirational book !!! So what was the point writing all this? To operate on the cataract of negativity and put glasses of positivity. Let?s for a change look at this world around us without strains of negativity, hues of worries and weaknesses.
