Reign In Hell
(William Diehl)

Publicidade
Reign in Hell is the last installment of the Primal Fear series by
master storyteller William Diehl. The story begins once more with
Stampler in a new guise, once more having escaped the noose of justice,
in a new town with an entirely new persona. But time has not diminished
his aims. If anything, much like a laser, Stampler's mind has simply
become more focused as he dresses in the robes of a preacher and
travels from town to drought-affected town bringing hope with him and
the promise not only of rain but miracles as well. But behind this new
persona is the same old Aaron Stampler that grew up in Crickside and it
is not long before he finds a right wing military group that shares his
views. It would seem that a confrontation is growing between the group
and the government a la Waco, Texas and it is in this light that the
newly promoted Martin Vail enters the scene. Unbeknownst to Vail is the
role that Stampler plays in the organisation but with his usual
skepticism and cynicism it is not long before he is of the opinion that
the government is merely using him as cover for a military strike to
say that they had tried to use diplomatic alternatives first.
In Diehl's concluding chapter of the Primal Fear trilogy, Vail will be
put to the ultimate test as he squares off against his old rival one
more time. For Vail the race is on to avoid a deadly confrontation with
the extremist right-wing group and believes that successful prosecution
of a RICO case (Racketeering and Corruption) is the best way that he
can use the power that he has accumulated over the years in the legal
profession. Diehl does not disappoint in this cataclysmic thriller that
turns pages with the ferocity of a tornado and will have you hanging
until the final chapter. On a small side note, one day I may forgive
him for the ending (I'm not giving anything away as usual) But I guess
all good things must come to an end at some point. Still, Reign in Hell
is if I may use the pun one hell of a send-off.
