Baltasar And Blimunda
(Marlua)

Publicidade
Once upon a time a King promised to build a convent in Mafra?Once upon a time all the people built that convent. Once upon a time there were a one-handed soldier and a woman who had powers. Once upon a time a priest wanted to fly and died insane. Baltasar and Blimunda is, from all views, an innovative historic novel. Its main character is the Convent of Mafra. The writer, standing back from a shaped description, restrict and factual, will privilege the entire age picture. The novel narrative follows in the style of a storyteller and a series of enchanted tales which end up belonging to the realms of the real imagination of History. Therefore, everything begins with once upon a time? And all begins with King João, the fifth in the line of succession, who is going tonight into his wife?s room, the Queen D. Maria Ana Josefa who arrived from Austria two years ago in order to give infants to the Portuguese Crown but till now has not been pregnant. The novel also introduces us this extraordinary character Blimunda and her encounter with Baltasar. From this moment on, Blimunda had been walking thousands of miles and the novel covered while she ran the world, in the writing as well as in the opera (from an adaptation of the Italian composer Azio Corghi). To our memories we have those unforgettable characters: a Sete Sóis and the other Sete Luas wandering their love in Portugal under violence and Inquisition, from the sad times of King João V.
