My Body God's Temple
(Adlena Lewis)

I Corinthians 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.My Body, God?s TempleIn order to understand ?My Body, God?s Temple,? it begins with your mentality. It?s not how much you know, but the quality of what you know. You can know a whole lot of stuff but if it has no quality, substance or significance then it will all add up to a head full of mess.King Solomon began his reign asking God for wisdom to rule over so great a people?the children of Israel?and God blessed him with so great a wisdom that there was never a man with so much wisdom before him and there would never be one after him. But we find in the book of Ecclesiastes that King Solomon wanted to understand and experience the other side of reason. He wanted to experience life to the fullest with no limitations; giving himself everything he wanted and the significant thing about this is that he was in a position to do so. Some valid observations he made from his experiment includes the following:The things that we want only provide temporary satisfaction, which means we will always want more.He states in the very first chapter verse 15 ?that which is wanting cannot be numbered.?The glory from our own accomplishments is short-lived as we come to realize that eventually we will have to leave what we?ve worked so hard to accomplish for others to continue in their own way.And in the midst of observations like these, Solomon came to the conclusion that living an ?all about me? life or living life with a selfish mentality is vanity and vexation of spirit. Such a life is not even worth living. It wasn?t until King Solomon put into effect the mentality that it?s all about God, that life had more meaning and more purpose. More importantly, life doesn?t end when you past away, Jesus has prepared a place for us to go to when we leave this life and enter into His rest.I?ve said all this to make you see that the theme of My Body God?s Temple, cannot be understood from a selfish mentality, it can?t be comprehended if you have an ?all about me? mentality: you have to have an ?it?s all about God? mentality. At the point of realizing that it?s all about God, something happens. This is when we see God?s handy work in our lives and serving Him becomes personal. And so, we choose God when we realize that He had already chosen us and we repent and confess that Jesus is the Son of God who was crucified for our sins and rose up from the dead three days later with all power in His hands. At this point we have become open to the reception of God?s holy Spirit, which enters our body. Keep in mind we come to God as we are, for it was while we were yet sinners, Christ dead on the cross for our sins. The Holy Spirit coming into our bodies can be compared to moving into a house. Luther Vandross sang a song that said ?A chair is still a chair even when there's no one sitting there/ but a chair is not a house and a house is not a home/when there's no one there?,? you know the rest. The Holy Spirit moves into our bodies like moving into a new house and He cleans it up, taking out the things that?s not like Him and putting in the things that?s like Him, making His new house into a home. See, the reason why we can?t wait until we get ourselves together before going to church is because we can?t do it on our own. God allows us to come to the realization that it?s all about Him so that we can give up ourselves to Him and when we do, the Holy Spirit enters in and ministers to us, comforts us, heals us, teaches us, guides us, corrects us, disciplines us, moves us, removes us, covers us, protects us, breaks us and put us back together. Reminds me of what some people do when they move into their dream home. But not many in the church realize what the Holy Spirit is doing. For some, it goes straight to their head when they feel the presee of the Spirit of God that they think that simply because they got a little feel God must be pleased with where they are in their lives. This is where the comfort zones of complacency and well-enough sets in. If you look in the Thesaurus, you?ll find that self-righteous and self-satisfaction are synonyms of complacency. But know this, God will not dwell in an unclean temple; His Spirit will enter in to clean us up but when we become stubborn and hardheaded, putting back in what the Spirit has put out and putting out what the Spirit has put in, we are literally giving God?s Spirit an eviction notice. Life in God?s will produces a continual spiritual growth that will shine forth in our physical lives.
