Publicidade
Correlations between biochemical findings and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in morbidly obese patientsBecause of controversies about frequency, diagnosis and possibility ofprogression toward chronic disease of fatty degeneration of the liverin morbidly obese patients, a retrospective study was done in patientswho underwent bariatric surgery. Sixty individuals with indication forgastroplasty with Roux-en-Y jejunal bypass were enrolled. They weresubmitted to clinical questionnaire, biochemistry tests andsubsequently, intraoperative liver biopsy. frequency of NASH andsteatosis was high, and 5.0% suffered from cirrhosis. In univariateanalysis there was correlation between various biochemical measurementsand liver enzymes. In multivariate analysis only serum albumin was adeterminant variable, with low predictive value. The histologicalgrading system remains the definitive criterion for diagnosis andfollow-up of this population
