MIRACLES - The Challenge to science
Man has often been coming across the extraordinary happemnings which are called Miracles. The miracles as we understand are the occurances which are beyond the limits of the natural laws of science. We often come across the peoplewho do the miracles in every country. Even after being satisfactorily convinced by a scientific mind that no tricks have been played, we do not finda logical answer to such happenings. For instance, once it happened a couple of years before that in every country including USA, UK,Australia,Middle East, the stone statue of a hindu religious diety could drink milk physically which was witnessed by thousands of people,press reporters and scientists, but till today no one could give any logical answer to the cause of such happenening.
Another word to signify such state of things or the course of events is SUPERNATURAL. The miracles, Jesus Himself described, are the violations of the Laws of Nature, but is ' the work which none other but Man did.' So the word SUPERHUMAN would be the appropriate word, rather calling it as SUPERNATURAL.
St.Augustine has rightly remarked that " Miracles do not happen in contradiction to Nature, but only in contradiction to that which is known to us of Nature. Hence, the definition that the miracles are supernormal and therefore is a rare manifestation of MIND, seem to be more convincing and appropriate and as such they may be the evidence of either 1. of INFINITE MIND, or 2. of a FINITE MIND in the UNSEEN, or of a higher Transcendental of the HUMAN MIND.
A distinction must be drawn between the two miracles :
1. The miracles which are voluntary exhibition of supernormal power for a Divine Purpose, and
2. The miracles which are the manifestation of an intelligence and a power beyond the control of human being
It is possible that the miracles of second category, may with the progress of research, render the miracles of today, the accepted scientific facts of tomorrow. But the miracles of first category, as Mr. Kant says " among events in the world, the operative laws of whose causes are utterly unknown to us ", establishes the evidence of the existence and operation of UNSEEN INTELLIGENCE or EXTRAORDINARY AND UNSEEN POWER OF MIND.
If scientific achievements such as the reaching to moon, the birth of artificial babies, change of human spare parts, are attributed to the power of MAN, the miracles are also the manifestation of the POWER OF MIND.
