This book is a well of fantastic information for those  that are trying to find, and make since of there Native American blood . McClure takes you to the roots and history of the Cherokee people. He gives you other books to use in your genealogy hunt for your red blood relatives and others. In reading and studying this book I find it not only informative but also a great American history resource. Mr. McClure was one of the lucky Native Americans that his family taught and handed down there legacy. Most Native American families that were not on the reservations hid the fact that they had any Indian blood. Some of them such as my own family were afraid to be known as red men .My own Mother was afraid she believed that they would (The White man) would come and take her children and put them up for adoption in a white home as they did in many cases. We were told we were Black Dutch and my Grand Father went as far as to change our Indian name to a German name, to hide our Native American Blood. Some Native Americans say that families that hid the truth deserve not to be recognized today. I believe that this is directly linked to greed on there part. As Mr. McClure points out if you have a small amount of Native American Blood you deserve to know and what you do with the knowledge is up to you. Most of us who truly believe we are of Indian Blood are very serious about finding the truth. With that comes a responsibility of knowingtheir pain and listening to their hearts. He talks about the trail of tears and the lies from the great white Father, the broken treaties, and the loss of our homes and lands. When all is said and done you my not be what they call a card caring Indian but at least you will know that you have the blood of a proud people in your veins .It does not matter how small the amount, what matters is that you know. Read this book and pursue your herritage.Mr. McClure takes you step by step into cense reports and how to make since of the Indian rolls and how to read them. At the same time he gives dates and history of that time period. Talk to the elders in your family they may hold the key. Mr. McClure can certainly help you find the right door.
