Write your abstract here. Chapter 1 A Change of Direction/JourneyI had been out all day and as I came through the front doorI was hot, tired and bothered. With the sound of the telephone ringing I was evenmore bothered however I picked up the phone more so out of annoyance and noteven thinking that the voice on the other end had an opportunity that wouldchange my life forever. It was my crazy doctor on the phone, the last person Ithought would be ringing me. I called him crazy because he tended to ask themost outlandish questions at the most inappropriate times. I said hello Mark, how are you. Fine thanks he said. Melissa he said we are having greatdifficulty getting the weight of you, Michael and you are not all that happy,he?s out of work and you desperately want work and are having trouble gettingit. I said well what else is new. He asked how if I would like to be given theopportunity to have my life turned around for the better. I said great as longas it doesn?t cost any money because Michael and I are broke. Mark said pleasehear me out.Chapter 2 Heading Off Over the Unknown WatersFinally the day came for us to fly off to the interview thatnight. I arranged it that way so we would be sleeping in the plane at ournormal time. We had lunch with my family and mum could not stop the tears fromflowing. I would find in time that mum still had a hold on me even though I wasa mature aged woman now myself and this change of circumstances althoughdifficult for mum would be the turning point in my life but I was yet to knowthe full extent of how my life would be changed.Chapter 3 Diving in the Deep EndDecide to accept the clinics offer, quick trip home to tieup lose ends and say final good byes. We had to also each of us keep a journalof our experiences but firstly write our expectations of our time at theclinic. Apparently it assists with the healing at the end of our time.Chapter 4 Harsh RealityPeeling the layers of hurt and pain away that have built upover many years and exposing the naked truth of our actual dysfunction way ofbeing. Being difficult and hindering the removal of these layers. Chapter 5 Turning the TideEver so slowly the pain and suffering is coming to thesurface and worked through. Slowly my family are working together and not beingdifficult with the staff and not hindering the change that is slowly happening.Chapter 6 Mentoring the new Fish year has passed and time for the graduates to leave forhome and to begin their new life and time for us to mentor the new familiesthat have come. Were we that difficult and unsure when we first came?Chapter 7 Testing the Tide with a Trip HomeOne of the main challenges for the families in second yearis to go home to test their new skills out on their families. But we are notalone. One staff member comes with us to assist us through this difficult andpossible stressful time. As the clinic knows if things don?t go well all theirgood work can so easily be undone.Chapter 8 Downhill SwimWe are now back at the clinic mentoring the new families, working through some deep seated issues and finishing my doctoral research inHealth and Wellbeing. It is great to have a ?normal looking body?, to be ableto swim, run and walk. It?s been a long and difficult journey but one I woulddo again in a minute. Dr John is over the moon and our families are learning toadjust to the new us.Canada or Back acrossthe deep waters to HomeDue to our success at the clinic we are both offered a fulltime job with the clinic. What a decision to have to make. To stay in thiswonderful safe place or to go out into the real world and use the remarkablelife skills we have been taught. We understand that families are needed to stayon and teach and in the future we may indeed come back and teach however for usnow we feel it would be more beneficial to go home and use our new acquiredskills because if we don?t we would be only using them in an so calledartificial environment. Our good friends at the clinic understood totally andsaid they would always be there for us if things got difficult. We said we havemade friends for life many scattered now all around the world but ones thathave been through the mill like us and ones we will never forget. Chapter 10 A new direction Dawns Back at home for the time being, our family and friendsgetting used to the new us. Facing up to the reality of our middle aged years, the children growing up and our parents aging. Chapter 11 Epilogue It?s been ten years now since we left Canadaand our children have grown and left the nest. We did not return to Canadalike we promised but we have done the next best thing. With the help of ourCanadian mentors Michael and I are setting up a Canadian Clinic in Australia asthe Canadian Clinic has been so successful Michael and I would like to giveback what has been given to us.
