......passionate about reading, my first choice had always been historical romances...but, i have never been particular on the kind of books i read....my book shelves contain whatever books i could lay my hands on. yet, auto-biographies or real life drama books....i ever read are few and far between......

but somehow i found the book "Not Without My Daughter", very fascinating....it was Betty's real story of her courage and determination and of how she won freedom for both her Daughter and her.....

The story starts with Betty Mahmoody's journey to Iran to meet her husband's family...along with them was their four year old daughter Mahtob....however, Betty is soon disgusted with the living conditions and the treatment meted out to the women....being a westerner.....she finds it really difficult to live like a chattel....she had just somehow lived through the weeks of vacation when her husband tells her the stratling fact that they were not returning back to U.S. ....Thus, mother and daughter falls victim to the alien culture....and become witness to the transformation of Sayyed to an increasingly tyrannical man.....this book is about Betty's attempt to escape Sayyed and return to her country ......along with her daughter....a heartwrenching saga of a courageous woman, her escape and her total devotion to her child.....their nightmare attempt to return home...

The book has been reported as a " Compelling Drama....fascinating, if disturbing...a moving story of one person's fortitude, courage and faith" by the New York Times Book Review....and i agree with their review.....even months after i have finished the book..it still tends to bring tears in my eye's whenever i think of it! The one book i know will forever remain my favourite!!!
