Towards Zero
(Agatha Christie)
?Towards zero? is presenting another intriguing theory of the Crime?s Queen, Agatha Christie, concerning obviously the murder. And so: which moment constitutes the most important fact for the Crime planned with a cold blood? Is it the true moment of committing it? Or maybe taking a murderous decision? Preparing the plan? Proceeding with its consecutive phases? Perhaps the most important in the whole act of murder is the act of committing it and then living without a shadow of any suspicion, like an apparently innocent, faultless citizen? Which moment really is the ?zero? point of the crime? In this book the answer to this question is even more difficult as we have to do with more that one murder. The air on anxiety, premonition of coming troubles, even horror raise when a group of people related by numerous and strong emotions, from hate to passion, former reluctances and sprouting feelings, gathers on the great premises of Lady Tresilian. A world- known sportsman Nevile Strange tosses about his ex- and actual wife, trying to appease conflicts. Kay bears a grudge against his husband and she hates Audrey- who used to be Mrs Strange and is her complete antitype. The latter apparently flows at the fate waves, yet there are violent emotions under the appearances. Her faithful adorer, Thomas Royde and a young Kay? friend Ted are also arriving to the manor. Mary Aldin is keeping an inestimable eye on the whole party, she also seems to be a tranquilizer and support for all, yet she brings on her own fears and anxieties. To complete the party an old friend of Lady Tresilian arrives and tells a story retained from one of the court cases. A child recognizable by a characteristic feature, who was to commit a premeditated crime. Nowadays an adult person. Could it be one of the guest sitting around the table that evening? No one will ever know the truth as the old man is found dead in his hotel the following day. Shortly afterwards Lady Tresilian is assassinated. All presumptive evidences indicate Nevil Strange, then Audrey Strange, and the case becomes disturbingly complicated. Whose death was planned as the proper ?zero? point and whose were only leading towards ?zero?? You need to read this book...
