Olycksfågeln
(Läckberg, Camilla)
In Olycksfågeln (literally, The Bad Luck Bird, a Swedish expression which refers to an accident-prone person) we are once again back in Fjällbacka and Tanumshede. At the police station in Tanumshede a new colleague has arrived, at the same time as Patrik receives a report about a single-driver accident that proved fatal. The new police woman, Hanna Krause, is immediately involved in the investigation, and accompanies Patrik to the scene of the accident. At the start it seems to be a tragic accident where the deceased was driving under the influence of alcohol and then crashed. But there are also some signs that there may be a different explanation. At the same time, the new reality show starts up in Tanum. It is called Fucking Tanum, and the local politicians are delighted with the attention Tanum is getting, and can almost, before it has even started, feel the money from the wave of tourists that are expected to visit. In parallel with the work on the single-driver accident, Patrik and Erica are also planning their wedding. anna and the children have moved in with Erica and Patrik, and Erica does not know how she will be able to help Anna recover from her depression after all that went on with Lucas. She hopes that her old friend Dan will help her. And life becomes no less stressful when one of the participants in the reality show is found murdered. Slowly the crimes seem to become intertwined, and on top of this the police are finding connections to similar unsolved crimes in Sweden from several years back. What is the connection? And how far back in time does one have to go to find the answer? Camilla Läckberg truly knows how to capture the reader. Her books stand out from other detective novels in that she describes more of the psychology behind whomever has committed the crimes rather than describing the details of how they were carried out. In a humorous way she writes about the everyday life of the police officers and you catch yourself smiling in recognition from time to time. I already look forward to her next book, especially since the solution to the issue of Erica's and Anna's distant mother seems imminent.Read also Isprinsessan (The Ice Princess), Predikanten (The Preacher), and Stenhuggaren (The Stonemason).
