Moliere
(Dom Juan)
Referring to the study of the classics has been a great hobby of mine and every now and then I am reminded that I did spend sometime at York University mastering this great skill I have to discussing and writing about the classics in literature particularly what is known as European Literature.
One such book is ... Moliere ... Dom Juan ... I got a "First" which is the highest mark you can achieve for my academic work in French Literature with specific reference to Emile Zola's Germinal ... I found it an intriguing study during that Summer School at York University in England all those years ago.
This particular text is central to that period of my continued interest. I would ask that you pay attention to the photographic inserts i.e. an adaptation for television in 1965 in black and white creates that wonderful "Sixties" atmosphere which has since its inception now become world famous. ... I wonder if I should get out my photographs taken in Greece, in black and white which are very much in the mainstream of this photograph taken from the TV adaptation.
Where or not you need a blow by blow account ... a detailed analysis of the characters and their creation by the writer, to take you through the play is a different matter.
I suggest you just dip into the text as follows ... scene 6 act iv ... DOM JUAN by Moliere ...
Ragotin: Monsieur... Dom Juan: Que pourrait-ce etre Scanarelle: Il faut voir
Its so easy take it a phrase at a time ... dont you want to know ... girl do come along and sing with Europe ...
Happy reading in French classics ... excellent stuff ...
