German Phrase Book
(Harrap's)
Thank God its Friday! And the weekend is looming ... a friend is entertaining this weekend, and she gave me an account of what she is NOT doing ...
She is not gardening She is not walking She is not shopping She is entertaining friends!
I am busy writing my book and sorting out one or two problems with my Publishers in America!
Well back to the task in hand. I wrote off a letter to German University in Vienna and the Post Office returned it to a local shop with a comment attached to the front of the envelope ... ADDRESS INCOMPLETE. But, I protested, vehemently, I wrote out the ADDRESS I found in the Guardian Newspaper. No matter! Its wrong!
I went on walking through the park into the city centre, and did some surfing on the internet and found an American University in Austria known as Webster's American University of Vienna, so I quickly made a note of the address in German and mailed off my CV plus covering letter; lets hope there is no problem with the German address this time and I will find myself teaching literature in Austria before the dawn of a new day for supply money!
This Phrase Book is useful and I chose a few phrases that might be of interest ..
I don't feel well .... mir ist nisht goot I knew an old gentleman who, every time I met him, that was his favourite phrase and he kept repeating it in English. I took him literally and reassured him that when he had a nice cup of tea he would feel much better!
Can you help me? I'm lost! ....konnen sie mir helfev. ich weill rucht wo ich bin. There's no plug in the bath ... es ist kein stopsel in der badewanne
Excellent stuff! ....
