From Rome To Jerusalem. Adventures Of A Traveler In Holy Earth

...On having fallen down of the evening, we come to the summit of the most abrupt hill and there appears before our eyes the mount of the Olive trees, lightly splashed with vegetable and with all the touches of a godforsaken cemetery. To the right hand the Vale of the Cruza, and beyond this one the white small houses of Bethlehem. And Jerusalem? Jerusalem scarcely can differ: so only there are seen of her David's gigantic tower and the dome of the Holy Tomb. The rest remains secret behind a thick agglomeration of rotundas and white frontages, modern construction: the Russian church, hospitals, schools,... Our traveler visits the Universal Exhibition of Paris (1889), wherefrom he travels to Rome the fantastic long journey up to Jerusalem, form then under the Turkish domain. A trip complicated and full of dangers, which takes him from Damascus to Santos Lugares, to Jerusalem, to return to Barcelona, scale of his native ground of Teruel, approximately five months later. A trip towards the origins of the Christianity, that is to say towards the essentials of the western society that we know, a trip towards a sacred urn that shuts up the penetrating perfume of the flower of a fistful of religions that coexist after the walls of the dazzling sacred city: Jerusalem. Although it is a book that can turn out to be somewhat difficult to read for the Latin Americans for the form in which it is been written (rather ancient and traditional Spanish, that they use in Spain), equally is advisable for the interesting of his histories.
