This book contains some of Dr Atkins latest reviews of his own method of helping millions of people shedding pounds without counting calories or suffering from starvation. His method explains the importance of carbohydrates, protein andfat in the process of keeping our bodies alive and howfood components are broken down to their minimal parts up to the final transformation into energy and other essential substances to body cells. The central thesis of Dr Atkins is based on the fact thatcarbohydrates estimulate an excessive production of insulin which remains in our blood longer than necessary. The presence of insulin in the blood, in turn, makes us eat more and demands more carbohydrates which will again produce more insulin entering a vicious cycle which has the so much undesirable effect of accumulating body weight. His theory stastes that pure protein and fat will hardly estimulate our bodies to produce insulin thus allowing us to eat as much of those elements as wanted. On the other hand one should cut glicose and carbohydrates to a minimum possible amount, ideally none in the first two weeks of his diet. The major difference between the method he initially introduce and the one presented in the book "Dr Atkins' New diet Revolution is exactly the allowance he makes for the ingestion of some carbohydrates present in most vegetables and leaves. He first method would have almost no allowance for that. This book establishes a coherent program of cutting carbohydrates to a minimum in the begining and coming back to reasonable amounts after a couple of weeks of very low levels of carbohydrates. At the end of the book Dr Atkins provides several receipes for regular home cooking, for those who have little or almost no time to cook, hints on how to use grocery stores typical products, what to buy and what to avoid on everybodies daily diets and a number of other interesting food preparation suggestions.
