"the Boarder Line" Genesis
(marccin)

Publicidade
The novel was was written in series, starting from 1931 and was printed in several periodicals. Its final version was published in 1935. Author, Zofia Nalkowska was by then a recognized and appreciated writer. The succes of "Granica" (The Boarder) was therefore somewhat predictable. "Granica" was summarizing experiences of a grown woman, in the middle of her life. It showed the line separating author's private and social life. She felt that her own experiences and reflections were important enough to be worth writing in a book. Nalkowska treated "Granica" as her squering up with the world and herself. From this perspective, the genesis of "Granica" is simple and easy to explain. It is naturally rooted in writers own life. It shouldn't, however, be treated as an autobiography. We cannot read "Granica" literally as Nalkowska's confession. It is a fiction based on the real life experience and reflection. "Granica can be an example of a gentle issue of close relation between the literature and real life, while at the same time they remain completely independent. "Granica" wasn't initiated by any certain impulse in author's life. It was rather an answer to all life's experience, which needed summarizing. This novel was crested in a period of a big crisis, which had a great influence on the writer's conscience. From many preserved sources, we know that Nalkowska was very concerned about her novel. We can read about her numerous travels between Warsaw and Paris, her many doubts and great effort to give the best of herself. Probably for this reason "Granica" remains one of the most important books in the history.
