The Curious Incident Of The Midnight Dog

First novel by Mark Haddon, prizewinner of awards such as the Whitbread and the one from the Commonwealth to the Best First Book; it tells the story of Christopher Boone, a teenager who knows the capitals of all the countries in the world, able to explain the Theory of the Relativity and to recite the prime numbers all the way to seven thousand five houndred and seven, lober of lists and diagrams, obsess by logic, physics, maths, and in general everything that can be explain, proved or predictable; and unable to tolerate phisical contact, as well as yellow and brown colours, among many of his peculiarities. He has never gone beyond the corner' shop, but the night when the neighbours dog is found dead he decides to start a search in persue of the one who did it, which will end unravelling the mysteries of his family. Amusing adventure that is about life, relationships and emotions, those of the character's in particular, who suffers the Asperger Syndrome, an autism related disorder. In his curious conception of the world he establishes certain rules that make his life easier: for instance, accordinghow manyred carshe sees passing by it will be a great day, a pretty good day or a good one; while if the cars he sees are yellow it will mean a black day; and he won't speak to anybody that day, he will but only read and take no risks. He uses deductive logic and mathematic formulas to face his own emotions or those of the grown up world, that he can't understand. He doesn't lie because he doesn't understan lies; or metaphores; he doesn't know how to interpret a face's expressions, as well as he is uncapable of expressing something he hasn't already lived. Its reading is highly recomended.
