The Harm Is Done
(Rendell, Ruth)
A typical day a teenage-girl disappears. Then another, and not far from that, they both reappear. This could be a simple case of voluntary absence, but the weird part is that neither of them remember at all what has happened; until the disappearance of a three year old girl is detected. There is a pedophile that has returned to the neighbourhood after doing some time in jail. The investigator Wexford will have to face the problem. He has at his reach the primary suspect and too many manipulation of youth and childhood. He will have to possess a lot of tact and shrewdness in order to solve these cases where the damage is irreparable.
