Gripping! This is an excellent look into the psychopathic mind. Thebook vividly describes the inner workings of those who commit the mostheinous crimes. What makes this book so compelling is the fact that itexamines individuals such as Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy. Chillingbecause it's real!Without Conscience discusses the lack of emotional empathy that is thehallmark of this pathology. It does so with descriptions ofpsychopathic behaviors from which emotional lacking is inferred and italso discusses the odd sensation that many people report having whenthey encounter a psychopath. A great description of that blood runningcold, skin crawling, unnamable feeling one has when encountering apsychopath is provided.Without Conscience is non-stop provacative, especially in its claimthat psychopaths are born, not breed. Some might see this asexonerating the individual, not blaming the parents and relievingsociety of its guilt as co-creator of a perpetrator-victim. With thatview, however, comes the gut wrenching realization that there's nothingto do...except lock them up!
