America Alone
(Stefan Halper Jonathan Clarke)

Publicidade
America Alone is a must read for individuals interested in a detailedhistory about the current debate in America regarding foreign policy inthe Middle East. It provides a review of the history of Americanforeign policy, especially from the Cold War forward. A detailed exposeregarding American unipolarity and multilateralism is provided. AmericaAlone takes a strong stand against the current Iraq War and uses thatpolitical position to understand and apply the concepts of Americanism,Anti-Americanism, Orientalism and Knowledgeable Ignorance. Occasionally the analysis of these terms and their application are abit inconsistent and unclear, especially regarding KnowledgeableIgnorance and Orientalism. At times, it appears that the authors feel aneed to add to the list of faults that they see the neo-Con possessing. From their analysis, it is not clear why two terms, KnowledgeableIgnorance and Orientalism, were better than one to help the readerunderstand what the authors identify as American, neo-Con faults. The most striking point in the book is that the authors think they canprovide the historical review, word and perspective on the Iraq War. Itdoes not occur to them that they are contemporaries in an on-goingissue and debate, and therefore must wait for the passage of time for amore authoritative review.
