London ?book review ?by David Ram I confess,I?m an addict of books.Hands-up!,and I surrender happily to every riveting author.Of course,my hands aren?t up,somehow I have to hold the book.I definitely not refer to ?hands-up-writers?.I?m able to read and enjoy many kinds of writings:classic,fiction,plays,biography,thriller,history,looking, as far as possible,for the best.Decree an ?embargo?of books on me and I?m a dead duck. I put aside all the superlatives used ??master of suspense?,-?page-turner?,and so on,for as true as they can be,they will never manage to offer you the genuine flavour,the authentic odors,of places,people,animals,flowers,and of course subtleties,which I most appreaciate and enjoy.Here,Dick Francis is a master.All that,without any prolonged phrases or juicy gossip.Many of ??non very important?(presumably) snapshots are taken by the way. From all Dick Francis books I?ve read, penetrates his great love for those wonderful,lovely equins,as well as his intimate knowledge of all tiny particulars,refering horses. He is a powerful-builder of plot- no words overweigth or ballast.He gives you the feeling of incident\accident happening, that brings you at a crucial crossroads, totally unexpected,unprepared.We all know it happens,during life,and during history as well.Here occurs your personality,at your best,or your worst,to face a struggle.To do or not to do.?! And what,and how.?? Pertinacity will have its word. But only now,I come to a main point of approach to Francis work.When I spoke of subtleties I thougth mainly of good,fine humor.In a much critical situation,in a hair-raising scene,he is able to find a trace of ridicule and slip-in a shadow of smile.He can push you abruptly into a bloody corner of horror,without forcing you to immerse your hands in.And alwais,the mature,elegant suitor,now and there the philanderer,using some practical slang,without becoming vulgar.
