Wild Child
(Lynn Plourde)

Publicidade
Lynn Plourde has outdone herself with this whimiscal book on the changing of the seasons. Wild Child is Autumn, Mother Earths restless daughter. The story unfolds around this wild daughter and the dance of a mother and child at bedtime. As it is with most small children, sleep is not on Autumns mind. Mother Earth must first provide a snack, which in Autumns case must be something seasonal such as pumpkin or cranberry. Next is pajamas which Mother Earth provides made out of the beautiful foliage that is a signature of New England. There must also be a song, one of the wind and crackle of a crisp Autumn night. Mother Earth provides all of these with a smile and warmth. The final request is to have goodnight kiss. Mother Earth happily provides this for her daughter before she proclaims that it is time for bed, done in a way that the child now knows she means business. An abstaract of this story would not be complete without mentioning the outstanding illustrations done by Greg Couch. He has captured the sights and smells of autumn in NewEngland. Lynn Plourdes bouncing text is engaging and fun for preschool to early elementary children. The best part is that Plourde and Couch teamed up on three other books, one to cover each season, The end of each book leaves the reader with apromise of a newchild of Mother Earth to represent a new season.
