Imperfect World
(Jay Bears)

Publicidade
There are many times in our lives when we wish for something. That ?something? can range from anything, whether it is to obtain a desirable object or even re-write history. In the most extreme examples, people wish for something so badly that they are willing to do anything to obtain it. Among these people, none of them ever succeed without price; except one man. Jack Haven was a man of risk. He loved a good challenge, but not as much as he loved an even better victory. He never lost a bet, much less tied. He always finished on top. There was not a man or woman on earth that could triumph over Jack Haven. Jack was proud of his accomplishments beyond the point of arrogance. He knew he was indestructible, and the thought of him ever being ?second best? was his only fear. This bothered everyone. Jack Haven was too perfect for his own good, and nobody could bear the fact that old Jack was flawless. This, however, did not bother Jack at all, because he did not care what others thought of him as long as he knew that no one could outsmart Jack Haven. Many people tried to challenge Jack in hopes of knocking him off his pedestal, but the outcome was always the same. One day Jack received the greatest challenge of his life. A man foolishly believing himself to be cleverer than old Jack suggested that he challenge the prince of darkness himself. The very thought of challenging the Devil was unbearable to everyone, all except for Jack. Without hesitation, he accepted this challenge. This task would not be an easy one for Jack Haven. The only thing that Jack and the Devil shared in common was that nobody had ever outsmarted either of them. Jack was confident he would succeed though, because he had a plan. In the end he would remain triumphant, and the Devil would gain nothing from old Jack; not even Jack?s soul. Without another moment?s thought, he summoned the devil in haste. The Devil smiled upon Jack. In his mind, he had already collected Jack?s soul. With great anticipation, he immediately accepted Jack?s bargain. In addition to this, Jack promised his soul to the dark prince. When the deal was closed, the devil asked what it was that old Jack desired. He was not prepared for Jack?s response. Jack had one simple request. Looking deep into the abyssal eyes of the fallen angel, he simply asked to be nonexistent. In doing this, a life without Jack meant a Jack with no soul. A Jack with no soul meant a world without a perfect human. Jack was never real, and although he lost the ?perfect? soul, he gained something even better: an imperfect world.
