Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed The Bible And Why
(Bart D. Ehrman)

Publicidade
This is an eloquent and concise introduction to textual criticism, the first of its kind by the author's own admission. As an amateur in biblical scholarship, and a student of classical Greek myself, I could not help but find Professor Ehrman's uncomplicated prose a wonderful change of pace. Here is a book that any novice might be grateful for. Though his arguments against literal interpretation of the Bible will irk Fundamentalists, they are not unique to this book, but in their explanation and description in context are still illuminating. It may be a surprise to many people that those great classics that have come down to us before Gutenberg's invention, are rarely if ever the word for word authoritative texts we would imagine them to be. This is true for the pagans as much as for the early Christians. Scribal errors creep in with each new copy, and as someone who has practiced calligraphy I know this at first hand. The earliest gospel is the gospel of Mark, written some forty to fifty years after the events it describes. Though it is very likely that that gospel was modeled upon an earlier version, that version has not survived, and with the intervening decades scribal errors are bound to accrue. Touching upon these points and many others this book is a delightful jumping off point for those testing the waters of New Testament scholarship and I can't recommend it enough.
