Maewyn Succat was born at the end of the fourth century in Scotland. His parents Calphurnius and Conchessa were from a Roman family. Maewyn was an ordinary boy. He didn't differ to the other of his age. Everything changed the day, when he was kidnapped and sold as a slave in Ireland. In captivity Maewyn turned to God and perhaps divine intervention help him to escape and return to his homeland. He began studies for the priesthood, and he became a priest. As a free man he thought often about return to Ireland, where he learnt Celtic language. With his new name Patrick from the Latin "pater civium" which means "the father of the people" he went to Ireland. Here he converted kingdoms. One of legends about Saint Patrick says, that during the baptising of king Aengus, Patrick accidentally pierced king's foot his staff. King thought that it was part of the ritual. Saint used a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. He picked a shamrock and showed people that "three" may exist as "one". Three referred to the number of leaves that the shamrock has, and one to the stem the leaves are attached to. Saint Patrick is a hero in Ireland - he made the country strong. The Irish adopted the new religion and mixed into their Celtic culture. It's noticeable in music and poetry.
