Saxophone
(Danny Wilensky)
Its the season to be jolly its the season to listen to fine music. Only the other day I phoned a mobile number in Europe and was pleasantly surprised to hear a note or two on the saxophone being played as the person was "out" or "busy".
Having studied music in childhood and gone every Friday to Piano Class it was often seen as the art of doing your own thing. However this proved not to be the case and it led to selection as a girl Chorister in the local church choir and in the school choir. Mostly our hymn sheet was Latin in line with the Latin Church of the 1950s.
This book is written in musical notation and if you have a family member or friend who enjoys playing jazz this is the book for you.
Improvisation has long been the specialism of the Drama Lecturer and expert in Theatre. We all group together and do a "mock up" of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, and then our students enjoy their participation in this generally well received improvisation.
I had listened weekly to the BBC Radio braodcasts in Jazz and found them totally absorbing.
So now is the time to get down to it. Get your Mum or Dad to buy you a saxophone for your birthday if they havent bought you a sax for Christmas. Ask your music teacher to help you along the way. After all that, practice in the attic or loft and everyone will come crawling to invite you to give a performance.
Listen to the greats in Jazz, such as Dizzy Gillespie, and listen to Louis Armstrong.
You like me will enjoy from end to end
