King Solomons Ring
(Lorenz, K.)

Publicidade
Konrad Lorenz was a leading light in the study of ethology and animal behaviour, and was quite possibly the closest thing the human race had to a real-life Dr. Doolittle. He was a natural scientist with the soul of an artist, and he was one of only three men to be awarded a Nobel Prize for his studies in this field.King Solomon's Ring is the first of Lorenz's books, detailing his daily life living in his own private zoo - namely his house - which he shared with dogs, rats, monkeys, jackdaws, geese, an assortment of other animals (and, of course, his family) that he brought home with him, which all ranged free within the confines of Lorenz's estate. It made life interesting, to say the least. The book tells of his highs, his lows, and his many mishaps while dealing with these creatures, giving us an amusing account of his life that is interspersed with a lot of relevant biological information that you barely even recognise as scientific because of how it is presented. To add variety, the book is also dotted with some of Lorenz?s own illustrations, giving anextra insight into the quirky nature of one of science?s most beloved stars. This is easily one of the most engaging scientific books that I have ever read, bringing the field of ethology to life in a much more personal way than I?ve found anywhere else. It is a must-read for anyone studying zoology or behaviour, or for anyone even remotely interested in those fields, and I would recommend it highly.
