The Pearl Maiden is a very inspirational book. It teachs some very good lessons,shows us the reality of bibical life,and show's us the evil and good in people.
Pearl Maiden is about Miriam, a girl born on a boat in the middle of a storm, whose mother,Rachel, dies shortly after giving birth. Before she dies, though, she asks her loyal servant and friend, Nahusta, to raise the baby int the city of Essences with he brother, the baby's uncle, Ithiel. He loves the baby as soon as he sees her, but Essence does not permit women in the city. Nahusta convince's Ithiel to ask the courts. So the courts granted permission to care for Miriam until she turns 18. While living in Essences, Miriam abide's by her mothers will for her to be a christan,even though Essence is a Jewish city. The order visits Miriam 2 times a week andat the age of 7,Miriam is given a playmate,named Caleb, they play everyday after lessons.One day while Miriam and Nehusta were collecting flowers they see Caleb with a bow and a quiver. He told them he ws killing heyna, which was a lie. Nehusta found out Caleb had shot an officer in the neck. Another named Marcus,came to investigate the situation,and immedatly falls in love with Miriam.Marcus introduces himself and asks Miriam to bring him into the cithy. Along the way they meet Caleb, who accidently shows his jelously toward Marcus. Afraid of losing Miriam, caleb confesses his love to Miriam and stated that he would kill any man that Miriam falls in love with. Marcus finds out Caleb is theone who killed the soldier and falls even more in love with Miram . Miriam begs Marcus not to arrest Caleb and Marcus agrees. Caleb,impowered with jelously,Challenges Marcus to a fight to the death. In the fight, which Marcus was relactant to take part in,Marcus cut off Calebs forefinger and Caleb runs away to jerusleum telling no one. Shortly after this Marcus is force to leave for war.So Miriam and Nehusta head to jerusleum to be with other christans and find out they are bieng killed by Romans. In search for a hiding place, the find zithiel, who leads them underground were they stayed for four months. After four months of hiding Miriam gets excited because she heard Marcus was coming. Everyday Miriam and Nehusta waited at a secret passage for Marcus, until the finally see Marcus fighting.But he was fighting Caleb,who was now the leader of the Jewish army.Caleb knocks Marcus out and takes him captive,when Nehusta and Miriam plan to rescue him.While saving Marcus, Miriam is captured and sentenced to dath.She was taken to the top of a hill,chained,and was to be starved to death. she is rescued ,however,by Roman officers,and a man named Gallus takes care of her.Ounce she was strong enough,she was to be sold as a slave. Before she could be sold,though, Marcus sets he free, but she must stay in Rome till she earns enough money to leave.to save money Miriam and Nehusta work in a lamp shop and it isnt long before Prince Domitian learns that Marcus was behing this bidding.Marcus is arrested and imprisoned. While Marcus is in prison, Caleb reappears recongniszing a lamp made by Miriam and finds Miriam. He told he she must choose between him and Marcus. Miriam never gave a straight answer but runs off for Alexandria a few days loter with Nehusta.After recieving word that Marcus is to be set free,but then to be killed by Domitians men,caleb sends work by messenger to Marcus with strict intructions not to deliver the message until agter bieng set free to find his servants gagged and a man tied and beaten beyond regoniztion on the ground in front of his house. He relixes ,form the missing finger that it was Caleb. The messanger arreives as schechulded and Marcuse reads the letter from Caleb stating that he gave his life for Marcus.Caleb explains the prince's plans and that Marcus is now truly free to find Miriam and make a life with her.
I reccomend this book because its about sarifice and integrity and true christian values.Caleb siced himself for his enemy,the way Jesus did. This story shows us the power of love and that the evil showed between enemies is not strong enough to take over the good in someone.
