WAGNER, JOHN & OEODARA, MIKE- XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS ? GHOST in SLAVE 1999 Dark Horse Comics. Quite a witty comic strip Xena adventure, tacked onto the end of the epic scale Slave Graphic novel, and very short by comparison. Xena & her dedicated sidekick, Gabrielle rescues a travelling jewellery seller from being robbed. The attackers are soldiers of the Roman Empire, now thrown into total anarchy and chaos since the death of Julius Caesar. As Xena and Gabrielle died on the crucifixes even as Caesar died, their resurrection (an event in the TV series itself) has made many people superstitious about them. Xena decides to exploit this as much as she can before word of her new exploits becomes too common to enable such a ruse. . The soldiers who attacked the jeweller were under orders from a man who hopes to become the new emperor. He is awaiting a sign from the Gods telling him that his destiny has come. Xena Recognises that the corruption of the men who are attacking everyone in sight now will extend to all the Roman occupied lands if the man is not stopped completely. Xena borrows a fake Caesar seal (a mere trinket made and sold by the jeweller, and highly fashionable), and breaks into the pretend ?emperor?s palace, despatching several of his guards as she goes. She now wakes up the sleeping power crazed man who thinks she and Gabrielle are ghostly visions (hence the title) that he must renounce all the worldly ways he enjoys, and that he must march his army unarmed and naked, towards the army of Mark Anthony, who Xena hopes will take power, as of course, history tells us he did do. The sight of the domed army marching off with no means of fighting, lead by a lunatic is fun.
