Sunset

The grass was wet with dew and the air had a cool moist taste to it. We sat silentlyon the large woolen blanket holding each others hand. From the top of the hill wecould see for miles across the flat fields of my northern Virginia farm. We sat looking off into the hazy distance. The sky began to slowly lighten a from a fadedgray to a light glowing blue. We looked across the horizon waiting patiently forwhat we and others for thousands of years knew would come, a symbol that was knownto be sure and forever enduring. Slowly a bright golden red tip emerged from thetop of forest tree line. The sun cast beams of light through the trees that cut through the early morning fog like like a hot knife through butter. I watched asthat warmth began to spread slowly over the fields. The light danced across the tops of the wheat stalks making the field look like a million candles blowing thein the early morning wind. It slowly began to rise up over the tree line and casta kiss of golden warmth across my face. The light seemed to go right through my skin and warm my soul. This was a loving type of warmth that I believed was one of the few times in life a person feels a bit of heaven.
