Perfect Fit
(Brenda Jackson)
Brenda Jackson is an author who not only knows how to write a compelling story but manages to create characters everyone can all relate to, which at times can make for an eerie reading experience. It is almostas if Jackson is reading your mind and calling your actionswith everyturn of a page. Even if you've never experienced what her characters have, her words are so powerful and passionate that you would swear she was writing your biography. Jackson's talents are unabashedly displayed in her book, Perfect Fit, where she introduces us to two characters who are convinced they don't need love, while trying to resist the feelings that develop upon meeting one another. When it comes to betrayal, Sage Dunbar can write her own novel. Just when Sage finally feels confident in marrying her fiancée, Erol, he breaks her trust not by sleeping around (as most people would think when it comes to betraying trust) but by cleaning out her bank account in a foolish investment deal. As if that isn't enough, the one man Sage respects and loves more than life itself--her father--disappoints her as well, when his daughter catches him having an affair. For Sage, no man is to be trusted and in an attempt to escape the ring of lies and deceit, she finds a fresh start in Anchorage, Alaska as a part of her promotion at work. While Sage slowly picks up the pieces of her life, lady's man, Gabe Blackwell, prepares for his next big architectural project--an upscaleski resort thatleads him to Anchorage and, ultimately, to Sage Dunbar. Although Gabecannot deny the strong attraction he has for Sage, a past betrayal keeps him from pursuing her. Sex-only relationships have sustained Gabe for some time and while he prefers his current lifestyle, his interactions with Sage on the business level make him long for an interaction on a personal level. Unfortunately for Gabe, Sage is just the type of woman he refuses to fall for: one with emotional baggage tied to a past love. Even though readers can normally predict the ending to this type of story, Brenda Jackson writes with such authority on the human heart and emotions that despite the ending being a little predictable, you can't help but find out how the two come together to discover a love and longing that neither one thought they would ever be capable of having. There is never a dull moment in the story and the love scenes are so hot, the pages catch fire. Jackson writes her love scenes in a way that is never trashy or pornographic. The prose captures each climactic moment between Sage and Gabe in such a way that you have to catch your breath afterwards.Jackson succeeds in telling the age-old story of two people who swear off love only to become more attracted to one another in a way that is meaningful, inspirational and creates characters you?ll always want to root for.
