Dtp And Your Future
(Sanjay Kaul)
DTP and Your FutureThe country's burgeoning population and resulting decrease in job availability has forced people to opt for self employment. People are aiming to establish themselves in this domain since there is always a possibility of earning more with less investment. DTP is the only business where there is more demand and investment required is comparatively low. The only thing needed is to learn some specialized techniques and constant practice on them.DTP Means Desk Top Publishing. Text composing with thesis and book composing lay out designing, scaling image setting, color printing and the like-all come under DTP. Earlier, card designing used to be done by manual typesetter in which big blocks had to be made before printing. Overall, all this work was done on a large scale which meant a lot of expenditure on composing Ink and overhauling of machinery. But the advent of computers has integrated all these processes besides improving the print quality and saving expenses. Before starting the DTP business, it is necessary to have basic knowledge of computers and full knowledge of DTP. You also need to have experience of working on some softwares. Since designing has also been included in DTP, it is advisable to have good knowledge of designing. You can gain experience by working with some existing DTP vendor. Softwares like Adobe PageMaker, CorelDraw, and Photoshop etcetera are fully related to designing, so to master all these, you need to work hard practicing them. To start a DTP business, it is not always necessary to get training from outside or work in some publishing house. Instead you can buy a computer at home, and get accustomed to various techniques of DTP. These days, most people who are running their DTP business, get trained from outside. For establishing computer system at home you would need a PC (costing 30000 rupees approximately), a Laser Printer (costing 20000 rupees) and a handheld scanner (costing 3000 rupees). If you want to buy two printers (one laser and one inkjet), it would be better to have laser printer only because the quality of laser printer is better than other printers and there are some cases where you would only need a laser printer. You would require an investment of 55000 rupees in total. In case your budget is slightly more, you can also opt for a higher capacity computer. The advantage is that you would not need to upgrade the computer soon. In addition to all this, you might have to invest in some furniture like Computer table, CD rack and furniture to keep other material. Besides you will to purchase computer softwares too. Overall, this business is more easy, convenient and cheaper to start as compared to other businesses, but the most daunting challenge is to get the work orders. To make your mark in the market is a difficult task. Evidently, you will have to introduce yourself and your business in the market. So, if you take months in this process, do not be disheartened, because although there are a lot of opportunities in this market, it is very difficult to know who is the customer, where is the opportunity and how to grab the opportunity. So it is important for you to exercise restraint. In addition to this you have to ensure that you do not compromise quality for quantity. Start with smaller projects. Your customer will be influenced only by the quality of your work and if the customer is satisfied, he will refer his colleagues to you to get the work done. If you start your DTP business in a marketplace, you might not need many other shops to establish a network, but you would anyways need to do some more efforts.
