The title story and the closing story not only of volume eight, but of the whole Lucifer series of comic books, and after this, there really could not be any more anyway. It begins in crisis. The angels in Heaven notice that the Universe, the whole of creation, is collapsing in on itself in atrophy because God has vanished. They know that the end of all things approaches quickly. On Earth, a young psychopath murders his wife and his son with a hammer. He has been receiving disturbing visions of a wolf, and a vast tree. They have driven him insane. He is arrested and sent to a lunatic asylum. Another human, and his girlfriend are shocked when demons knock on the door and invite themselves in for a chat. One tells the woman that she was unsuccessful in the abortion she tried to induce in herself, and still carries one of her two twins. These demons now help the man in the prison asylum to escape into their own dimension. From Heaven, the Archangel Michael tries to tune himself into the frequencies of creation In God?s Logos Room, where all creation began. He struggles to control the crumbling music of creation, but he can?t. Heads to a meeting with agents of Destiny. From Earth, the madman is lead to a meeting with Fegris, a demonic werewolf that is destined to devour the tree of life. It offers the madman the resurrection of his wife and child but only if he will kill them again, so that their blood will feed the roots of the tree instead of the life-giving water there already. Lucifer rushes to the tree to try to prevent this. He is wounded. A pilgrim, heading out to bless the tree, is begged by Lucifer?s friends to bring its water for the purposes of healing Lucifer. The pilgrim returns instead with the new blood. Lucifer drinks and becomes the means by which to destroy the World. Now the final battle itself begins, not for life, but for the souls of the dead. Lucifer has become the Lord Of The Flies. A rich, shocking and symbolism laden finale to a very powerful comic book series.
