Roadkill?s farm, where he stores the rotting corpses of dead animals, becomes the focus of events. The investigation is complicated, through an unscrupulous lawyers? defence of a paedophile, by public hostility against suspected paedophiles. This public outrage provides a continuous backdrop to the investigations. Indignation is fuelled by leaks from within the investigating team to the star reporter on the local newspaper. These leaks not only annoy senior officers, create the perception that McRae is instigating them, but also endanger the case.This fast-paced and action-packed first novel is full of fun, irascible characters, and contains a heady mix of accusation, guilt, innocence, sorrow and anger. The character development, conversation, wit and delivery are better than that of a first novel. The clever plot line supports ingenious twists and the novel holds your attention from beginning to end. This book is well worth the read.
