It all starts from a death of relative of Asakawa: a lead character of the story. He, who works in a publishing company, suspects the cause of her death, and decides to find out the truth. As he follows the tracks of her activity, he discovers videotape in a lodge where she stayed with her friends, just one week before from her death. He leans by watching it for himself, that the videotape is concerned in her death.
A content of the videotape is inexplicable that he does not understand any of it, except for the last part, which a line goes: ?whoever watches this videotape will die in exactly one week.? And after that it says what to do to escape from coming death, but the most important part of that was erased so that he can not escape. Now he of course, becomes the one of these ?whoever?, but he has no clue what to do. He can?t stand this fear on his own, and he calls for help to one of his friends Ryuji, whom he went high school with. Ryuji is willing to watch the videotape to figure out what this videotape wants. He is not a type of guy who is scared of this kind of phenomenon.
If such videotape has ability to kill people, then Asakawa and Ryuji each have only one week to their death. They work very hard to analyse the content of the videotape. Worse, Asakawa?s family are involved, and then now they have to save 4 persons? lives including themselves. They have to be investigating to find out the way to escape from coming death, pulling themselves together against the pressure of limited time and terror of death.
