Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix
(J.K. Rowling)
There's a certaindegree of expectation that accompanies the Harry Potter series. It started as a beloved little novel in Sorcerer's Stone, popularized exponentially in Chamber of Secrets and became a phenomenon by Prisoner of Akzaban. Then came Goblet of Fire, which was as beloved as it was thick (a whopping 735 pages). Andas Iquickly and excitedlyIturn the pages of Order of the Phoenix,I can hardly come to grips with the fact that J.K. Rowling has done it again, somehow. She's managed to preserve that beautifully fluid narrative, to maintain her continously expanding imagination, to further flesh out the beloved characters of Harry, Ron and Hermione. If Azkaban is known for its sheer emotional gravitas (Sirius Black isn't bad!)and Goblet of Fire stands out for its complex plot and pivotal story (Oh my God! Voldemort is definitely alive and kicking! and SCARY!), Phoenix is without a doubt the champion of character portrayal.More than ever before, we see the bonds of friendship between these young wizards, the camaraderie and solidarity of these characters to stick by one another no matter the consequences. In Phoenix, Rowling seemsto give the entire series of a jolt of acid and turn the entire thing upside-down, while still keeping us absolutely glued to her every word. And if those last 150 pages don't have yougripping your chair (or your sofa or your bed or wherever you might be),then you best check with your doctor to make sure you still carry a pulse. Rest assured Potter fans, Rowlinghas once again outdone herself. The question now is,How on earth canHarry PotterPOSSIBLY get better than this?
