Apple cider vinegar -- as little as one (1) teaspoonful in a glass of water before or during meals can make an enormous difference in your life and health.

This book is the original report of research done by Dr. Jarvis on various cures and amelioratives used widely by farmers and country folk in Vermont -- he later tested them on cattle, horses, dogs, minks and chickens, as well as such of his patients as might benefit from them, particularly for such conditions as infertility, headaches, allergies, chronic fatigue, certain types of arthritis, and a host of other more or less common ailments -- one school also tested one of his recommendations, honey, in their sports program, and he reports on this as well.

He details the use of honey, wild greens and leaves, corn and corn oil (the latter externally and internally), rye, honeycomb (chewing it like gum tends to heal, or help at least, the respiratory passages), Apple cider vinegar, kelp, grape, apple and cranberry juices, and castor oil (the latter externally only, for warts and the like).

He likewise recommends avoiding wheat (which chickens and many other animals will not eat unless desperatelly hungry), white or refined sugars, and many citruses and their juices, because these foods tend to akalinize the body (as tested in the urine), making for a fertile ground for disease and parasites.

He also emphasizes the use and necessity of iodine, whether obtained from sea foods, such as ocean fish and seaweeds (especially kelp, and its extracts), or through supplementation in maintaining energy and vigor even into advanced age.

All in all, this book is a wise and interesting union of folk medicine, observation, experimentation, anecdote and such modern techniques as testing to keep the urine acid (which tends to prevent illness) with litmus paper, and use of a drop or two of Lugol's solution once or twice a week to keep the thyroid healthy.
