This is the literary masterpiece of the world acknowledged, enigmatic writer and philosopher, Kahlil Gibran. It is unmatched in its unfolding quality, which grips the reader with all its simplicity and innate meaning. The story starts out with a man?s rejoice over returning to where he belongs after a long halt at a land where he observes the unknown land?s people, and learns through them and their ways. This is no ordinary man; he is but a messenger of God, the Prophet. He finds himself feeling the sense of belonging to the land and its people and a tinge of sadness on leaving them, in spite of his happiness on returning to his homeland. It is this moment that has been the start of what seems to be the very essence of human life and of its implications. At the fringe of departure he answers the questions of his beloved people with the truth and honesty he knows to be his. The answers are beautifully phrased, almost poetic, too simple to the naked eye but with an ocean of meaning hidden in them. Perhaps it is this weirdly simple language that makes it all the more difficult to contemplate what has been spread out before us. Its about life, about love and marriage and sorrow???everything that one could possibly encounter in one?s lifetime, just everything bared in front of our eyes, yet hidden in the subtleness of beautifully phrased words. The virtues that this philosopher wants to share have been woven in a mesmerizing storyline by him and the vices themselves have been composed in a manner that would compel one to think and crave the understanding of what the writer wishes to convey. A masterpiece in itself and a must read for all philosophy lovers and ardent readers.
