How To Play Tennis
(Marcel Meier)

Publicidade
Marcel Meier has written a book called How to play tennis which is published by Foulis Spectrum Books.

In the beginning he is saying that tennis is a relatively cheap sport. If one can find a good club, one will feel it. Then it is a game suited to any temperament. It is a good exercise which will improve our health and fitness. In this game, one player shoots at an opponent, away from him, not at him.

Mr. Meier has written very smartly about the clothing, food, types of exercises that are needed for the game. As important first principle he is commenting that tennis is one of the most difficult ball games. Without a trainer your progres will come to a very miserable halt. The writer of this abvstract has experienced it.Practice makes perfect is the motto. The desire to show up as well as possible in a game leads to tenseness, and to the making of technically incorrect strokes. He has also explained with the photographs of how to play the strokes and also of Practice sessions. The book is duely supplied with black and white photographs of eminent players of the past including Ken Rosewall and Rod Laver of Australia. The service in a tennis game is very important. The three typs of services viz;slice, flat, and twist or kick are clearly described in this book. He is advising to familiarize yourself with your opponnt's fitness, ability and tactics. If something is beyond you and if you attempt it you are a fraud. In tennis also.

The main attraction of this book to me is its simplicity, terseness, a language that is powerful enough to strike home ideas and selection of some good pictures from the past. It is indeed a book that can be the property of any amateur player. Keeping Wimbledon in the dreams and playing locally without airs. Then the purpose is served, it seems. That is what I understand.
