Write your abstract here.Once you start this amazing novel 'Spellbound' by author Jane Green, you won't be able to stop. It's a must for all women out there who have had their hearts broken by a cheating partner. Even if you haven't, it's still a truly fantastic read.Alice is rather plain and normal, so when gorgeous, rich, sought after, Joe Chambers shows an interest in her, she is deliriously happy.Once Alice and Joe are together, he begins to transfor her into his ideal woman. He buys her expensive jewellry and designer clothes to replace her boring wardrobe. He makes suggestions about dying her mousey coloured hair blonde and straightening the frizz. They get married, and live in a huge house in London. Alice attends work parties and functions with Joe. She hangs off his arm, letting him treat her like a trophy. She makes small talk with the other wives, and smiles flatteringly at the husbands. She is a rich member of all the exclusive clubs, and is admired and envied by many women. So, why is she so unhappy?Well, she hates the lifestyle, but she doesn't complain, she goes along with it because it's what Joe wants. She wants to keep him happy. But more importantly she has heard the rumours about Joe cheating on her. She suspects they're true, but doesn't know for sure, as she has no proof. Joe has cheated on Alice many times, including at his stag party, the night before he got married. His next affair is with a beautiful, sophisticated work colleague, Josie Mitchell. When Joe and Josie are caught in the act by other work colleagues, Joe is informed by his boss, that as relationships with colleagues are not tolerated, he is being transferred to New York.Joe and Alice move to beautiful house in Connecticut. Alice is happy. She loves her new life. It makes her realise how much she hated the old one. She's sure that Joe has stopped cheating, and spends her days decorating their new home, gardening, shopping for antiques and refurbishing old furniture. Joe stays in an apartment in New York during the week so he's closer to work, and spends the weekends at the house with Alice. At Christmas, Alice invites her best friend Emily and her boyfriend Harry to stay. Alice cannot help envying their relationship. Harry adores animals, gardening, walking, talking, and shopping, but most of all he adores Emily. Alice wishes Joe could be more like Harry. But Emily informs Alice that although she thinks a lot of Harry, she doesn't feel quite the same as he does about her.New Year's Eve brings an eventful party. Greenfingerd Harry gets offered a job at the local garden centre by the owner, one of Alice's new friends, and Joe unsuccessfully tries his luck with neighbour and new tennis partner Kay. Then as the clock approaches midnight, Alice and Harry are caught in the back garden, KISSING...!Who catches them? Emily!Emily and Harry leave America the next day. Once back in England, they split up. Alice tries to contact Emily, who won't return any of her pleading phone calls, or respond to any of her apologetic letters. So Alice throws herself into working on the house and socialising with the neighbours, who have become close friends. When Joe starts acting strange again, and staying the odd weekend in New York, they begin to drift apart once more, and Alice starts to suspect Joe of having an affair again. She finally checks Joe's computer and finds seductive e-mails from Josie.Alice throws Joe out and tells him their marriage is over, and has been for a long time. Upset and in tears, she phones her best friend Emily who finally decides to forgive her.Over the next couple of months Alice reverts back to the person she was before she met Joe. Two inch dark roots of hair are showing, and there's not a speck of make up on her face. All the designer labels and strappy heels are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe, and have been replaced by jeans, old shirtsl Alice wants from the divore settlement is the house she lives in and loven happy with that, after all she could have demanded half of everything. Then Alice is informed that Harry is in Connecticut. He has taken the garden centre job he was offered at the New Year's Ever party. She decides she must tell Emily. In their phone conversation, Emily admits that she thinks Alice and Harry always got on well, and that they make the perfect couple. She was never totally satisfied with Harry anyway and is now very happy with her new man Colin, so she doesn't mind.Joe and Josie split up. Josie wants to be the only woman in his life, but he cannot resist temptation and continues to have affairs. Josie is never really the same after the split. Emily gets pregnant, has an abortion and splits up with Colin, and as Alice and Harry spend more time together, they get closer. The story ends with a question. Is Alice pregnant? But as Jane Green says...that's another stroy.A tale of love, lust, betrayal, jealousy, heartache and tears. This novel has it all and will have you truly spellbound.
