This is another welcome entry into the popular adventures of Pip and Flinx series by Alan Dean Foster. Running from an intrusive but well-meaning Doctor who wants to delve into the unexplained brain waves emitted by an unconscious Flinx after he and twenty-one fellow Mall strollers were rendered comatose. Worried Flinx needs someone to talk to. Aboard the starcruser Teacher (created for Flinx by the elusive Ulru-Ujurrians), he goes looking for his only love Clarity Held in hopes she will help him in his quest to unravel the mysteries of his mind and find someway to stop the earth shattering headaches, now more frequent and dangerous.Creating chaos Flinx comes to visit Clarity at her workplace. Scrap senses his mother Pip and races to join her causing one technician to faint as Scrap flies by.This becomes a challenge for Clarity and her Alaspinian mini dragon Scrap, after Clarity is pulled into one of Flinx?s nightmares and is touched by the pure evil behind the Great Emptiness.Clarity is a young woman who has clearly gone on with her life during the six years since she has seen Flinx. She has a job and is pursued by a man who doesn?t think she should spend so much time with Flinx. He becomes a danger to both of them in his efforts to possess the beautiful Clarity.
