The Seventh Secret
(Irving Wallace)
Like the rest of the world, Dr. Ashcroft and his daughter Emily thought that Hitler, the Dictator of Germany had died on April 30th, 1945 until Dr. Ashcroft received a letter informing him otherwise. Dr. Ashcroft was conducting his last and most fabulous research on Hitler with Emily assisting him. Dr. Ashcroft received a letter from Hitler?s dentist asking him to dig the Fuhrerbunker if he wanted to get his story right. The bunker was located in East Germany. He wrote to his friend there asking him to get permission to dig. While researching in Germany he was killed and the police made it sound like an accident. Now Emily decided to complete the book and she came to know that her father was murdered. In Berlin many attempts were made on her life. She finally got permission to dig the Fuehrer Bunker but did not know what to look for. In Germany she met Foster, an architect who was completing his book on Architecture in the Third Reich. He found that there was something missing and wanted Emily?s help. In Germany, they were met by Nicholas Kirvov, the Curator of the Hermitage in Leningrad. He had recently acquired a Hitler painting and wanted to confirm that it was an original. He couldn?t identify the building in the painting before he could exhibit it.With difficulty, Emily was able to get permission to dig the Fuhrerbunker. Foster had the plans for six bunkers. The person incharge of digging the bunker took Foster to his father who worked in the sixth bunker. From him Foster came to know that there was a seventh bunker for which there were no plans. All the people who worked in the bunker were killed and he was the only one who escaped. He could draw the seventh bunker from memory. With his help they decided where to dig. While making inquiries about the painting, Kirvov got information about the seller. He traced the person as Klara Fiebig. When he approached her she denied that the painting was hers and her behavior was so weird that he decided to watch her apartment. After some time a tall, distinguish looking woman entered Klara?s apartment. When she came out Kirvov decided to follow her. She entered a café and Kirvov waited outside for her. All the people left and the café closed but the woman didn?t appear. Kirvov reported this to Emily and they decided to follow the woman wherever she went. The next day the woman met the Chief of Police, Wolfgang and they heard him call her Evelyn Hoffmann. When the woman entered the café, she was followed by Emily and Kirvov. When Evelyn didn?t come out Emily went in. She couldn?t see the woman and went in search of her. There she found guards in full Nazi uniform and they imprisoned her. When she didn?t come out Kirvov informed Foster. Now that the digging in the bunker was almost complete, Foster decided to enter the bunker and he was sure that he would find Emily there. It was strange to enter the bunker where Hitlerand Eva Braun committed suicide. Foster looked for other signs which he found very quickly. He shifted a heavy chest and found that the brick work was hollow. When he started digging the wall gave way easily and he saw a passage in front of him. Taking a flashlight and a sharp instrument he walked along the corridor. He came to a dead-end. Using the instrument he was able to locate a huge slab of concrete. With great difficulty he removed the slab and found himself in a room. He entered softly and found that the place was heavily guarded. Being a strong man he was able to fight the first guard he saw and made him unconscious. He put on his uniform and posing as a Nazi guard entered the apartment. He saw that it was a sprawling apartment well below ground. He found Emily and both of them went into Evelyn Hoffmann?s bedroom. They gagged her and then found a truth serum in one of the cupboards. They injected this into her and made her talk. She let out the whole secret. Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun hadn?t died on 30th April 1945 as the world believed. Evelyn Hoffmann was none other than Eva Braun. Hitler had died long after 1945 and they also had a daughter Klara Fiebig who didn?t know who her parents were. She was brought up by Eva?s maid like a normal child in Berlin. Now, with the help of Wolfgang, who was the police chief in Berlin they were trying to establish the Third Reich again and were very close to achieving their goal. They were ready to eliminate anybody who came between them and their cause. In the meanwhile, Kirvov and a few Mossad agents who were on the trail of Hitler and his associates from the beginning surrounded the building. They let in a powerful gas through the ventilators. When they knew that Foster, Emily and Eva were out of the apartment, they blasted the underground bunker. That was the end of Wolfgang and all the Nazis. Eva escaped and Foster could not find her again. Klara committed suicide. Emily, Foster, Kirvov and the Jews received all their answers and now they could complete their work without leaving any stone unturned.
