The Writer?s Handbook
(Barry Turner)

Publicidade
The Writer?s Handbook is an annual publication which has been compiled in order to provide writers with a guide to selling their work. Although not as well-known as the Writer?s and Artist?s Yearbook, it is very definitely a major rival to that publication. The book crowds as much information as possible into its 850+ pages and is as exhaustive a survey of potential markets as it is possible to be in a book of this size. The guide has sections covering UK publishers, poetry publishers and publications, small presses, UK literary agents, national and regional newspapers, magazines, news agencies, television, radio, film, theatre etc. Besides these actual markets, the book is full of further information which would be of use to a writer. For example, there are sections dealing with writers? courses, festivals, prizes, grants, arts councils and professional societies. The information given is concise and to the point. Thus, for example, the section looking at UK publishers will list the name, address, website and relevant email address for the publisher. It will then give a summary of the type of material the publisher accepts, whether they accept unsolicited manuscripts and how they pay royalties. There is also a very useful authors? rating of the company. The reason people buy a book such as this is to identify possible markets for their work. As such a tool, this book is excellent. It is packed with a huge amount of easily accessible information for those seeking publication.
