Saint Peters' Umbrella
(Kálmán Mikszáth)

Publicidade
I think, it is difficult to find so magical story in the Hungarian literature, like this short novell of Mikszáth. This story is a beautiful mix of reality and cultic legend. Destiny of two young people, Gyuri Gregorics and the protégé of Saint Peter ? Veronka Bélyi - will run the same way? because of the mistic umbrella. It was really Saint Peters? umbrella? Or only the umbrella of an old schnorrer, who wandered in the country? Will we ever see the reality behind the tale? But apart from the background of this umbrella it had a magical force: it showed, how much helpful and all-kind can be the people. It brought good luck for the churchman, and love for Veronka and Gyuri. And this is more important than monies. The figures of this nice tale show the caracters of earlier times: the cult afwul, naivety and moral correstness. I suggest to read for everyone who hasn?t done yet.
