This is a heart stopping can't put it down romance. Johanna Lindsey is a prized historical romance novelist. Her hero's are women as well as men. She loves to take you to dark, and daring places with so much detail you will swear you were standing right there.
This paticular novel begins with the charming Dutchess Jocelyn . WIth both her parents gone she makes her way to the New World, and into the unforgiving old west. Upon the death of her parent's Jocelyn has found she has enimies who want her dead. Her cousin follows her to the deserts of Arizona to see her dead, and him the inheritor of her fortune. The Dutchess has her first run in with danger in a narrow pass through a canyon. Her cousin and his cronnies send a huge bolder barreling out of control towards hercoach. Thankfully the bolder misses, but young she finds her self in a bit of a pickle anyhow. Her carriage end's up on it's side and her gaurds end up on the other side of the huge bolder.
Good thing for her our hero Colt Thunder now steps into the picture. Imagine her surprise when her coach door opens and the most dangerously sexy man in creation is standing over her. The half breed with ice cold blue eyes is the most erotically savage thing this prim dutchess has ever laid eye's on. She also find's out the hard way and soon after. He is the rudest, most hatefull, person she has ever laid eyes on as well.
The dutchess being unaware of Colts past, and his hatred for white women is baffled by this man's behavior. She tries desperatley to hire him as a guide so that she can safley make the rest of her journey. After days of begging, goading, and negotiating, Colt finally agree's to take the job. Their first mishap accurs shortly after. They were stopped on the trail by a group of well known renegade indian's. The leader of the group demands that he take Jocelyn's prized white stallion. Not wanting the dutchess to have more reason to be a headache our hero Colt steps in. He challanges one of the man's braves to a very primitive fight. With one hand tied behind his back Colt finds himself in a one armed knife fight. Well obviously he comes out the hero.
Almost at the end of their long exhausting trip. The young dutchess finds herself in another scrape. Theifs hired by her cousin, break into her room. She dashes out the window and hangs over the ledge. Poor Jocelyn knew this was it for sure untill a familiar voice and hard muscled arm's found their way around her legs. Later back in her room our story finally heat's up as Jocelyn finds herself engulfed in flames of passion, and desire. Our hero finds himself in a bit of a mess to. He finds himself in love with a white women.
Colt has his reason for hating white women. Long ago when he was only 19 he took a job with another farmer on his ranch. There he fell in love with his daughter. At this time Colt was passing himself off as a white man in a white man's world. Well the family soon found out of dishonesty about his past. He was tied to a hitching post in the man's front yard and beaten with a whip untill nothing remained of his back. His sister Jessy came and rescued him from the farm. She was very protective of her brother. Colt after spending year's waiting for the wounds to heal on his back. Never healed in his soul, and developed a hatred for the white's. Especially their women
Well miss Jocelyn is changing all that. Her quirky human. Stunning beauty and wide open heart are to much for Colt to resist. Oh he tries to, our hero is nothing but stubborn. He and the dutchess battle wits at every turn, Exchange haughty remarks almost daily, and fall in love almost instantly. This story will make you laugh, cry, and in most cases. Make you blood down right sizzle. With it's Well done discriptions, Sad sinarios and blissfully erotic chapters of love. A must read if you ask me. Enjoy.
