Alok, Ryan and Hari are screwed up big time. They are 3 normal guys who somehow manage to get into a premier engineering school like IIT but somehow mess up their grades at the first level itself. Its hiralious to read how these 3 boys spend their 4 years inside the high walls of the Indian Institute of Technology.Alok has his family problems, Hari is a somewhat a looser and Ryan is a flambouyant personality but at the wrong times and under no circumstances Is ready to make up with his parents. The 3 form a unique friendship inspite of contradictory personalities and spend their time doing everything except studying.Hari has a lot to narrate?right from the first day when the seniors strip them nude to the final day?when the 3 pledge never to forget each other. In between there are many happy and sad moments and some..rather disastrous moments too. The trios pass the first few weeks just like any other student but then decide to go out of track and end up screwing up their grades. But then ?who cares?. They continue to have fun, listen to Pink Floyd, smoke grass and even drink vodka prior to the vivas. The 3 try out many theories practically to reduce their work load (courtesy Ryan who is always bursting and bubbling with his ?LETS DO IT IDEAS?). From the mice theory to C2D(co operate to dominate), they do everything but ultimately land in trouble. On the whole they leave no stone unturned to see to it that they are labeled as the troublesome threesome of the college. The story has many melodramatic moments also. Alok wants to study but the other two won?t allow him to. So he leaves (what the hell!!). But 365 days later there is a happy reunion. However there is more to come. Hari gets drunk before a viva and yes.. as usual manages to get caught by the Prof. To add to it he falls in love with the same Profs. Daughter. Mind Blowing Hari?Keep it up. One day suddenly the three feel that they need to improve their grades and decide (not to work hard) but to steal the papers. And Lo Behold they get caught over here too. Poor Alok can?t stand the shame and decides to commit suicide. But his ill luck saves him. With the help of Prof Veera the three come out squeaky clean from the issue but end up working like donkeys with extra subjects and assignments. Finally Alok and Hari get employed and Ryan begins his research on his much loved subject of Fluid Mechanics. A happy ending of sort..but abrupt too with the readers mind always asking for more.Chetan bhagat weaves a wonderful story?a must read for all youngsters.(for a change adults too.)
