The author, João Garcia, dedicated mountain climber with heart and soul who had been the first Portuguese to reach the top of the Evereste. This is about a true narrative; done in the first person in which he adds a mix of feelings and emotions throughout the book.Since he was very young, he directed all his efforts in order to make his dream come true: climbing the Himalaias and reach the top of the Evereste, the highest mountain of the world with its 8850 m towards the sky. A hard fight has been struggled to materialize his intentions, and after diverse attempts, he finally was able to congregate the ways and join the right people to carry on with his undertaking, the so desired expedition to the Everest. After a period totally spent with the enormous amount of preparative, starts this immense adventure.They head until the capital of Nepal, Katmandu. Then they went for Tibet, crossing along beautiful landscapes, with such of wasteland as of charm. Inhaled and determined, they tread the way between Yaks and Sherpas, loading tons of equipment. Consecutively, great stages of acclimatization, encampments, long tracks and some unexpected situations that threat to compromise the great outcome, but that showed just to be simple challenges, easily exceeded. The moment for the final countdown arrives. João Garcia and Pascal Debrouwer, his great friend and companion from so many adventures, start their hard walk to the top of the mountain. They became exposed to their physical and mental limits, almost inhuman conditions, but with much persistence and determination they reached the highest point of the planet. They are on the top of the Evereste, the balcony of the world. But, that implacable mountain charged its price. Already at their fatal descending, Pascal paid with his own life and João suffered from serious burnings at the extremities of the body that had cost him some amputations and months of waiting for recovery. João Garcia dedicated this book to Pascal Debrouwer as a form of homage to his beloved friend who lies, somewhere at the perpetual snows of the Everest, since 19 of May of 1999.
